SPECIAL INFORMATIONThis prototype housing unit was designed and constructed using a holistic and synergistic view of the three design criteria: low cost (target affordability = $35,000), energy efficiency, and healthy indoor air quality (IAQ). Energy efficiency addresses reduction of energy use through design, insulation, management of air infiltration, and product choice. IAQ addresses the prevention of excessive moisture resulting in mold and fungus proliferation, chemical out-gassing from various materials, poor ventilation and/or combustion problems, irritants such as pollen and dust mites. |
