SPECIAL INFORMATION

Although the home performs well today, the homeowners initially experienced some problems with overheating the home during the summer. With extensive kitchen use, no fluorescent lighting, and a standing pilot light in the gas fireplace, the house was running at about 78 degrees Fahrenheit. The ventilator would exhaust the hot indoor air, but would transfer the heat right back in the evening.

To resolve the problem, Gary Mazade built a non-heat recovery core for the ventilator, fluorescent lighting was installed, and the pilot light is turned off in the summer. Kingsman made an electronic ignition kit for their gas fireplaces. Now, all is well. The homeowners, Steve and Brenda love living in their sustainable Swiss Chalet.
