SPECIAL INFORMATION

EcoVillage is a residential community in Northern Virginia, nine miles north of Leesburg. It was created to offer a positive alternative to typical residential developments. Its dual mission is:

Create a social infrastructure that meets residents' needs for connection while ensuring privacy
Create a physical infrastructure that respects the natural environment and resources

Families began moving into their newly built, energy-efficient homes in spring of 2002 and building continues. Over 85% of the 180 acres is placed in "permanent open space" with the County of Loudoun. All of the common area is organically certified and lots are required to be organically managed. Protected conservation areas and a wide array of land, water and air protections are outlined in the Architectural and Environmental Guidelines that are part of the Declaration of Covenants of the community association. Home construction and maintenance guidelines assure pursuit of the community's mission. Selection of many materials used in the community are evaluated to assess their impact on the macro environment, energy use, health and waste, as well as on their affordability.
