Tyler Knue Energy Efficiency Innovations: Dual Energy Meters - Homes Across America Search Return

Tyler Knue Energy Efficiency

Goals of Innovation: To provide accurate data on the performance of the building system.

Description: Two meters were installed to monitor energy usage. One meter monitors electricity usage, while the other monitors heating and cooling. The second meter was installed through the Touchstone Energy program of the West River Electric Association.

Obstacles: Since the use of a second meter is a new idea, it requires some education and motivation to get contractors on-board, such as electricians familiar with traditional approaches.

Cost Information: The cost of the second meter is approximately $200 installed. The homeowner greatly appreciates the knowledge that the meter provides; both in terms of monitoring the building system and the added benefit of tracking your electric usage on the other meter, which is more occupant activity oriented.
