RECIPIENT OF THE INTEGRATED DESIGN AWARD

The Cast Earth Green Home demonstrates an integrated design, from the partnership of knowledgeable designers to the careful implementation of ideas. Designed and constructed by Graybeal Architects LLC and partners, it is a multiple-use, single-family home. Two offices and a greenhouse provide functional spaces to support and enhance living in the one bedroom home. The general layout and construction accommodate disabled or elderly residents.

The home blends into the natural topography of the site, using a drop in grade to minimize the height of the solar greenhouse. Orientation of the home enhances daylight throughout the living spaces and provides for passive solar gain. A skillfully applied collage of "green" products, from the foundation through finish materials and appliances, protects both the natural environment and occupants.

This project achieved its goal of creating a low-impact, livable space with function and unique attraction.
