SPECIAL INFORMATION

The owner, educated as an electrical engineer, ran many computer energy simulations during the planning of his home. His results show that a properly designed and efficiently operated home can have a relatively large amount of glazing on the north side, if it is desired. His home, which was given Energy Star's highest rating of 5+ Stars, features a large window with a north view overlooking the Lamprey River. His simulations also show that southfacing windows designed for winter solar gain need to be insulated at night in order for a home to receive maximum benefit from a passive solar design.
