SPECIAL INFORMATION

This is a passive solar, super-insulated home constructed by Copper Country Habitat for Humanity (CCHFH) in South Range, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula. The house represents a conscious effort by the builders and owners to decrease their reliance on fossil fuels and make use of free, non-polluting sunlight.

Total energy consumption in CCHFH homes of this design is reduced by 39 - 45%. Total cost of the house was approximately: $40,000 or $38/sq.ft. The house appraised at approximately $73,000.

This house received a year 2000 Five Star Home Grant from the State of Michigan as part of President Clinton’s Million Solar Rooftops Initiative.
